In response to the Asia tsunami disaster, an Aeronet client in Chicago, IL had an urgent need to ship critical, time-sensitive telecommunication equipment to the Indonesian police headquarters in Jakarta. Coordination of rescue and relief efforts depended on this equipment. Aeronet was called to the rescue. |

On December 26, 2004, the most powerful earthquake in 40 years, an undersea temblor measuring a magnitude of 9.0 on the Richter Scale triggered massive tidal waves, killing approximately 150,000 people in 11 countries of southeast Asia. Indonesia was in the heart of the tragedy. At a moment when lives where at stake, where people affected by the tremendous destruction counted their chances for survival in minutes, our client counted on Aeronet to make it happen, to do the difficult, no matter what the obstacles. |

Aeronet received the request on Tuesday, December 28th and by 3:40 p.m. that day Aeronet had picked up the radios and scheduled the shipment for a flight that evening. The plane departed at 2:12 a.m. on December 29th transiting through Hong Kong. The shipment was monitored the entire journey and arrived safely and timely at Jakarta airport at 10:12 p.m. on Thursday December 30th. |

Just 42 hours after being picked up in the Chicago suburbs the shipment had traveled halfway around the world, to an area devastated by a natural catastrophe of tremendous proportions and was being cleared by customs for use by the emergency services in the rescue operation. |

Aeronet's business is a critical function to industry and commerce, although, not plainly visible to the general public. The news media reported that public buildings in the U.S.A. and Europe were flying flags at half mast, stock exchanges fell silent, crowded railway stations came to a standstill and television and radio stations broadcast solemn music in memory of the victims, and the United Nations called on the international community for stronger coordination and cooperation of relief efforts. Meantime, behind the scenes, across the nation and around the world, Aeronet was taking action, transporting, monitoring and delivering critical shipments. |
